Our history

Aluma was founded in 2009, originally as Focal Point Software, by George and Nidal, whose experience in the document capture industry had given them a passion for the applications of document automation, and a strong desire to introduce a new generation of technology with a focus on ease of adoption. Industry partnerships quickly led to the software being deployed in government systems, hospitals and other organisations worldwide. We deployed the first cloud service version in 2015, and have since continued to grow the company and evolve the service to keep pace with the latest technology.

George Harpur - CEO

George Harpur

Co-founder and CEO

George is a serial entrepreneur and an expert in machine learning and pattern recognition. Since earning his PhD from Cambridge University in the mid 90s, he has been applying these skills to document automation, and has played a prominent role in the development of multiple industry-leading products in this field. When not immersed in business or technology, he enjoys spending time sailing with his family and friends.

Nidal Husein - COO

Co-founder and COO

An engineer by training, an entrepreneur by nature, Nidal is passionate about working with and bringing together talented people and cutting-edge technologies to address real world challenges. He loves helping deliver innovative products and solutions to the market by drawing on many years of hands-on experience in the document automation space. In his free time, if an activity involves the outdoors, count him in.

Mark Whitman - CTO

Mark is a software leader with extensive experience in taking complex technologies and making them easy to use. An experienced builder of high-performance software development teams, Mark was a winner at the UK Agile Awards in 2012. In his spare time, Mark can often be found playing trumpet, bass or drums in several groups and leads two local jazz bands.

Phil is keen on a challenge even in his free time, where you will often find him biking off and on road, discovering new places and pushing himself further.

Ed brings a successful track record building mutually profitable and innovative partnerships. He honed his skills in strategy consulting and operational management, including scaling a solutions business to $100 million in annual contract signings. He earned an engineering degree from Princeton and an MBA from Harvard Business School. Ed loves travelling to exotic locales and relishes any chance to practice his Spanish.

With over 25 years’ experience bringing innovative products to market covering content services, records management, and business process automation, Andrew loves introducing practical, long-term solutions to real-world problems. He enjoys being out in nature, and can often be found walking his dogs along the banks of a river, fly fishing, or diving with his daughter on holiday.
